Olympic Center Zone Ⅰ

This zone is made up of pavilions of Nanjing Olympic Sports Center, has fifteen percent competition venues, providing fifty-five percent competitions of 26 sports. The YOV and Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be held in this zone, filled with sporting character and Olympic culture.
Located in western Nanjing, the Olympic Sports Centre is 3 KM away from the Youth Olympic Village. It is accessible by 7 bus lines and 2 underground lines. Temporary bus lines to all YOG venues will be added during the YOG. (This information will be omitted in the following descriptions of the YOG venues.)
Initially built in 2002 and completed in 2005, the centre occupies an area of 896,000 m2 and has a floor area of 401,000 m2. Its main structure includes a stadium, a gymnasium, a natatorium, a tennis centre and a sports science and technology centre. The construction of the centre won the IOC/IAKS Gold Award in 2007. During the 10th National Games of China, it served as the venue for such events as the opening and closing ceremonies, athletics, figure skating, gymnastics, swimming, synchronized swimming, diving and tennis. Some of its facilities are now open to the public for leisure activities.

The stadium covers an area of 53,000 m2 and has a floor area of 137,000 m2, with61, 500 seats and 176 VIP boxes. It was designed and constructed in accordance with the standards of international competitions, multi-sports games and football games. The stadium is installed with 2 LED display screens, and has such function rooms as lounges for referees and athletes, and Doping Control Stations.

Located to the north of the stadium, the gymnasium is 180 m long, 170 m wide, and 39 m high (25 m in net height). It covers and area of 220,000 m2 with a floor area of 59,660 m2 and an infield area of 70m * 40m. The gymnasium has a seating capacity of 13,500 and a standing capacity of 100.
The gymnasium consists of a main section and an auxiliary section. The main section can host such indoor competitions as ball games, gymnastics and ice sports events. It can also host closing ceremonies for large-scale activities. The auxiliary section has two floors, the first floor serving as a training area for ice sports and the second for indoor sports.
The gymnasium is equipped with a removable floor and electric movable chairs. These facilities can be adjusted to meet different needs. Inside the gymnasium there is a full- color super screen of 82 m2 (564,480 pixels), with a video effect better than that of DVD. It also provides VIP boxes.

The natatorium, located to the northeast of the main stadium, covers an area of 20,000 m2 and has a floor area of 30,507 m2, with a seating capacity of 3,100 and a standing capacity of 100.
The natatorium is composed of a main section and an auxiliary section. The west wing is the main section, which consists of a diving pool, a swimming pool and the spectator stands. The east wing is the auxiliary section, which is used for training. The natatorium can host international and domestic competitions including swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo. The natatorium is open to the public.

The tennis centre, located to the north of the stadium, has a floor area of 40,000 m2, with a seating capacity of 7,800 and a standing capacity of 100. The centre includes 1 final court, 2 semi-final courts, 14 outdoor courts and 4 indoor courts. They are equipped with lighting and sound systems, and can well meet the requirements of international and national competitions.

The warm-up field was built in conformity to national standards. It has 3,000 seats and an 8-lane 400 m track, and is connected to the main competition venue through an underground passage. The field, lighting, sound system, LED display screen, scoring system and spectator stands are all commensurate with the level of official games. The field can also meet the requirements of modern pentathlon (running and shooting) competitions.
