Second IOV World Youth Congress to be held in Nanjing
Nanjing, Feb. 7, 2010--The Second World Youth Congress of the INTERNATIONALE ORGANISATION FüR VOLKSKUNST (IOV) will be convened in Nanjing from October 21 to 26, concurrently with the World Historical and Cultural Cities Expo, an event Nanjing hosts every other year.
The theme of the congress will be: “We are the youth of today--looking back and moving forward.”
The event will provide about 300 youth members from different countries and regions with opportunities to share their views and experiences on sustainable urban development, on protection of cultural heritage, especially protection of urban and rural intangible cultural heritage, and on the role of youth in cultural heritage protection. The focus will be on the relationship between urban construction and traditional cultures.
The participants will review cases of success and failure and will make lecture presentations, hold exhibits, and conduct field studies.
The IOV is a worldwide NGO working together with UNESCO to preserve and promote the world’s intangible cultural heritage. The First IOV World Youth Congress was held in Bountiful, Utah, USA in 2008.
The IOV holds young people to have great potential in protecting and promoting folk arts, a conviction which echoes that of the United Nations when it announced the year 2010 to be the International Year of Youth.
The Second IOV World Youth Congress is co-sponsored by the Nanjing Municipal Government and the IOV, and jointly organized by the Nanjing Youth Federation and the China National Section of the IOV.
Nanjing is one of China’s ancient capitals with a history of over two millenniums and also a modern metropolis with a population of more than 7 million. As the host city for the IOV congress, Nanjing will provide an excellent platform for the youth around the world to showcase their youthful vigor and achievements in preserving and promoting folk arts and traditions.
The official website of the Second IOV World Youth Congress will soon be opened. Before that, please log onto www.iov-world.com for more information.
